JANUARY 2012
The weather has been unusual. Some snow at times but more rain and milder temperatures than we normally receive. If you are a skier than I know you wish for more snow, but the ski resorts are making snow everyday since the temps do allow for that, so you are guaranteed a place to downhill ski. Jeff Halblaub, the National Weather Service meteorologist says that because of the position of the jet stream we are having a mild winter. That is a similar pattern we had between 1953 and 1958.
THE MARKET... I also want to remind you that the market is coming back slowly but surely. What is the most telling thing? That is, the sale of vacant land. We have not sold much vacant since the crash of 2008, but that has changed. I closed on 3 vacant parcels in December. Buyers see the great value now and have acted on their dreams of building a new home in Leelanau County.
